The best restaurants in Medellín for a tasting menu are Elcielo and Carmen, both in El Poblado. At Colombia Desk, we plan trips and group stays in Medellín, and the picks below are grouped by neighborhood with each restaurant’s listed price and award. For bandeja paisa, Mondongo’s, La Matriarca and Hato Viejo list plates at COP 59,000 to 66,500.
Medellín holds no Michelin stars because the Michelin Guide does not publish a Colombia selection. Sambombi Bistró Local is the city’s only entry in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025, at No. 98 on the extended 51 to 100 list. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs about COP 26,000, while Elcielo’s 18-course menu is listed at COP 700,000.
The Best Restaurants in Medellín by Neighborhood
For a tasting menu in Medellín, book Elcielo or Carmen in El Poblado; for bandeja paisa, Mondongo’s has branches in El Poblado and Laureles. Condé Nast Traveler named Medellín among its ten best places to eat in 2026 in an unranked global editorial selection reported by El Colombiano.

Elcielo vs Carmen for a Tasting Menu
Book Elcielo for a 12- or 18-course menu listed from COP 550,000, and Carmen for a seven-course menu from about USD 118. Sambombi Bistró Local is the third option, with a weekly menu and an average spend of about USD 45.
Elcielo Medellín operates inside the Elcielo Hotel at Calle 7d #43c-36 in the Astorga sector of El Poblado. Chef Juan Manuel Barrientos leads the Elcielo group, and the Medellín dining room serves lunch from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and dinner from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday and holidays. On the Precompro booking system in October 2026, Elcielo lists The Experience menu of 18 courses at COP 700,000. At the official exchange rate of COP 3,174.67 per US dollar (Datos Abiertos Colombia), that is about USD 220. The 12-course menu, The Journey, lists at COP 550,000, or about USD 173. The booking page shows each price beside the menu and does not say “per person”, so ask Elcielo through Precompro whether the figure is per diner. Elcielo also offers a Taste Me add-on menu and the à la carte Elcielo Bistró menu.
Carmen sits at Carrera 36 #10a-27 in El Poblado. Carmen opened in 2009 and is run by co-owners Carmen Ángel and Rob Pevitts, with chef Juan José Cardenas leading the kitchen. Carmen presents modern bistro cooking built around Colombian biodiversity. According to its 50 Best Discovery profile, the seven-course tasting menu starts from about USD 118. Carmen also serves à la carte, and the average spend is about USD 41 per person. The restaurant serves lunch Tuesday through Saturday and dinner Monday through Saturday. XO, from the same group as Carmen, serves a 13-course menu with produce from local farmers, according to Condé Nast Traveler’s list.
Sambombi Bistró Local operates at Carrera 35 #7-10 in the La Florida sector. Founder and chef Jhon Zárate changes the menu every week. Dishes feature Colombian produce in preparations such as arepas topped with crab slaw or cassava gnocchi. The 50 Best Discovery guide lists the average spend at Sambombi at about USD 45 per person, with service running for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.
If you want the longest dinner, with 12 or 18 courses, book Elcielo. If you want seven courses from about USD 118 or an à la carte dinner, reserve Carmen. If you want a menu that changes every week at about USD 45 a head, choose Sambombi Bistró Local.
This tier is not for you if you want a cheap dinner: Elcielo’s shorter menu alone lists at COP 550,000, about 21 times Numbeo’s COP 26,000 inexpensive-restaurant meal. Eat bandeja paisa in Laureles or El Poblado instead.
Three things would change these picks: a Michelin Guide selection for Colombia, a Medellín restaurant entering the Latin America’s 50 Best top 50, or a new price on Elcielo’s booking page.
Michelin Stars and International Restaurant Rankings
Medellín has no restaurants with Michelin stars because the Michelin Guide does not inspect or evaluate restaurants in Colombia. The MICHELIN Guide selections directory lists 51 selections as of October 2026, including Brazil, Argentina and Mexico in Latin America, but excludes Colombia entirely.
While the Medellín branch of Elcielo does not hold a Michelin star, the restaurant group operates starred locations in the United States. Chef Juan Manuel Barrientos runs branches in Miami and Washington D.C., both of which have earned Michelin stars, according to the official Elcielo site. The group also operates dining rooms in New York and Bogotá.
International dining recognition for Medellín comes through the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants awards and The World’s 50 Best Bars. In the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list announced in Antigua, Guatemala, no Medellín restaurant placed within the top 50. Bogotá led Colombia with venues such as El Chato at No. 1 and Leo at No. 23, while Celele in Cartagena ranked No. 5. On the extended 51 to 100 list, reported by Forbes Colombia, Sambombi Bistró Local placed No. 98, with Bogotá’s Oda, Debora and Selma at No. 76, 85 and 96.
Two Medellín bars are on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2026. Bar Carmen placed No. 39 and shares Carmen’s address. Bar director Maycoll Tobon uses Colombian regional ingredients, and a cocktail costs about USD 11, per 50 Best Discovery. Mamba Negra placed No. 22. It is a rooftop bar at Calle 2 #20-50 in El Poblado, with cocktails at about USD 12. Its food draws on Africa, Spain and the Caribbean, so it is the pick if you want to eat with a view. Mondongo’s serves traditional regional dishes, operating locations in El Poblado and Laureles. Alongside its bandeja paisa, it specializes in traditional mondongo tripe soup. In Laureles, diners also visit Antioqueño Capital near the Segundo Parque de Laureles for traditional paisa food.

Dining Outside the City and Announced Venues
Two of the restaurants on Condé Nast Traveler’s Medellín list sit outside the city, so plan on a car for either.
Sancho Paisa sits near José María Córdova International Airport outside the city. In El Carmen de Viboral, La Casa de Vero features cooking led by chef Verónica Gómez, known for sancocho. For drives out of the city, see our day trips from Medellín.
Within Medellín, Andrés Carne de Res operates at Carrera 43 A # 6 Sur 26 and works as a party dinner that runs late. The location opens Sunday through Wednesday from noon to midnight, Thursday from noon to 2:00 a.m., and Friday through Saturday from noon to 3:00 a.m.
Several new restaurant projects were announced for Medellín openings during 2026, though their operational opening dates remain unconfirmed. These projects include Boro, led by chef Jaime David Rodríguez of Celele in Cartagena; Test Kitchen Lab, directed by Adolfo Cavalie and Daniela Alvarado; and Osso de Lima.
Reserving Tables and Traveling to Dinner
Book Elcielo first, because it is the only restaurant here with a published deposit rule.
Elcielo requires booking through its online Precompro reservation portal. The system requires an upfront per-person deposit that applies 100 percent toward your final bill at the restaurant. Deposits are non-refundable in the event of a cancellation or missed seating, but reservations can be rescheduled up to 30 calendar days forward, subject to availability. Bookings can also be confirmed by calling (+57) 320 681 4821. Carmen’s listed phone is +57 316 625 4896, and Andrés Carne de Res takes reservations on 601 589 3880.
After dark, order an app car from inside the restaurant rather than hailing a taxi on the street; our guide to whether Medellín is safe explains why. If you take a metered taxi, the minimum fare has been COP 8,300 since 2 February 2026.
